Governor encourages all Oregonians to have a safe holiday

Also remember those who are less fortunate on Thanksgiving, Governor says

Salem, Oregon — Governor Kulongoski today reminded everybody to travel safely and remember the thousands of Oregonians who will not have a Thanksgiving meal.

“As we sit down with our families and friends on Thanksgiving and celebrate the blessings in our lives, take a moment to think about the Oregonians who are struggling with food insecurity this year,” Governor Kulongoski said. “Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on those families and remember all the ways we can help.”

Many local businesses are collecting food for the Oregon Food Bank and other hunger relief agencies around the state. For example, food can be dropped off at any Albertsons, U.S. Bank or Jiffy Lube from now until the end of the year.

While remembering the less fortunate is important, it is also imperative to travel safely this time of year, the Governor said.

“In true Oregon fashion, the weather this weekend will be rainy and the roads will be wet,” Governor Kulongoski said. “Remember to drive safely and slowly, use caution and wear your seatbelt.”
