Governor Kulongoski orders flags to be flown at half-staff

Flags will be lowered in memory of Pfc. Dean Bright and Cpl. Chase Haag

Salem, Oregon – Today Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff on Friday, October 13, 2006, in memory of Pfc. Dean R. Bright, 32, of Roseburg and on Monday, October 16, 2006, in memory of Cpl. Chase A. Haag, 22, of Portland.

“Oregon lost two of our finest men last week,” Governor Ted Kulongoski said. “Both were exceptional men, community members and Oregonians who unselfishly lost their lives for our country.”

Bright died—alongside three other soldiers—in Taji, Iraq on October 4, 2006. Bright was assigned to the 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas.

Haag died in Baghdad, Iraq, on October 1, 2006. Haag was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, out of Fort Hood, Texas.

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of these brave men in their time of loss and mourning,” Governor Kulongoski said.
