Governor praises late Judge Lichtig
South coast will miss Howard Lichtig's leadership, Governor says
Salem, Oregon—Governor Ted Kulongoski expressed his sadness Friday over the sudden death of Curry County Circuit Judge Howard Lichtig, and ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff in Curry and Coos Counties (15 th Judicial District) on Monday, Oct. 2.
Judge Lichtig died yesterday in a traffic accident on I-5, near Cottage Grove.
"My thoughts and prayers are with Judge Lichtig’s wife, Florence, and those who are close to their family," the Governor said. "Judge Lichtig was a dedicated public servant and an active member of the community. His tenure as a judge was far too short. He will be sorely missed."
The Governor appointed Judge Lichtig to the bench in May 2006. Prior to the appointment, Judge Lichtig practiced law in Curry County, and served as the Port Orford Municipal Court Judge. He donated his legal services to many causes, including the Animal Legal Defense Fund, of which he was a board member; the Friends of the Curry County Animal Shelter; Klamath Humane Society; and the South Coast Baseball League. He also served on the boards of two local library foundations and the North Curry Families and Children's Council.
