Governor's Task Force on Equality will take public testimony

Salem, Or.—Governor Ted Kulongoski’s Task Force on Equality will hold a public forum in Medford to take comments on sexual orientation and gender-identity equality.
"The Task Force on Equality works to ensure that no Oregonian will have to face discrimination based on sexual orientation," the Governor said. "I want to hear from the public how we can strengthen the basic rights of every Oregonian."
The Task Force public hearings will include invited testimony, public testimony and written testimony.
The Governor directed the Task Force on Equality to identify potential changes in Oregon law to guarantee all Oregonians adequate protection from sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination. The Task Force’s mission includes reviewing anti-discrimination laws adopted in Oregon cities and counties in comparison to other states.
The Task Force will provide a final report to the Governor's Office by December 1, 2006. The report will include recommendations for improvements in Oregon law for consideration by the 2007 Legislative Assembly.
