Governor welcomes new high-tech firm to Oregon
MathStar, high-performance chip maker, relocates from Minneapolis to Hillsboro
Hillsboro—Governor Ted Kulongoski welcomed another new high-tech manufacturer to Oregon Thursday, cutting the ribbon in a grand-opening ceremony that opens the new corporate headquarters of MathStar, a semiconductor company that designs, manufactures and markets a new class of logic platform chips called “Field Programmable Object Arrays.”
“Today marks another chapter in the book of success that we have been writing for Oregon over the last several years,” the Governor said, referring to his ongoing effort to recruit new companies to Oregon. “Working together, the state, counties and local governments partnered to create a positive business climate with a quality workforce that is now attracting top-notch companies like MathStar to relocate to Oregon – and invest in Oregon.”
The grand opening marks the move by MathStar from its former home in Minneapolis to Hillsboro. MathStar targets its applications in high-definition video, imaging, machine vision, military/aerospace, test and measurement, and wireless base stations.
The Governor highlighted that MathStar joins the more than 1,700 high tech companies that employ over 66,000 Oregonians in the Portland Metro Area, and the company’s presence in Oregon strengthens the diversity of the state’s “technology cluster” with its manufacture of high-performance systems and products.
“MathStar joins some of the world leaders in high performance technology,” the Governor continued. “I look forward to working with our newest partner in the technology sector to help Oregon continue to lead the way in advanced technology, with high paying jobs, and clean manufacturing.”
The Oregon Economic and Community Development Department has worked with MathStar since Spring 2005 to successfully recruit the company’s relocation to Oregon. In a short ten months, the company has a 12,000 square foot facility in Hillsboro and 35 employees on the payroll in Oregon. The company plans to add more jobs by the end of the year.
