Governor Announces New Communications Director

(Salem, OR) – Today Governor Ted Kulongoski announced that Lonn Hoklin will serve as his communications director, effective December 20, 2005.  Hoklin, 58, presently serves as the communications director of the House Democratic Office in the Oregon legislature, a position he has held since the beginning of the 2003 legislative session.  Prior to that session, he worked on the communications staff of Governor John Kitzhaber.

“Lonn has a depth of experience in state government, the legislative branch and media relations,” Governor Ted Kulongoski said. “He will play an important role in helping me meet my goals of providing educational and economic opportunities for all Oregonians.”

Before moving to Oregon in 1987, Hoklin served as a senior policy adviser and communicators for the Attorney General of Montana, a position he held for 10 years.  During that period, he served as staff director of the Montana Board of Forensic Science, and founded a statewide law enforcement training publication.  Before working for the Montana attorney general, he served as a senior legislative assistant to then-US Representative Max Baucus, specializing in veterans affairs, energy and land management.

An author of seven published novels, Hoklin is an army veteran, having served in Vietnam from 1969-1971.  He lives in Tigard.
