Governor to Present
“Mahonia Food Industry Award for Hunger Relief”
Governor to present award after helping to deliver perishable food  to the Oregon Food Bank from Fred Meyer

(Salem, OR) – Governor Ted Kulongoski tomorrow, as part of his Harvest Week events, will present the “Mahonia Food Industry Award for Hunger Relief” after helping to transport perishable food from a Fred Meyer store to the Oregon Food Bank.  The food delivery is part of the Fresh Alliance Program.

The Mahonia Food Industry Award recognizes a member of the Oregon food industry for a commitment and contributions toward ending hunger in Oregon.

“We can only win the fight against hunger if we all work together – and this award recognizes a business that has stepped up to help,” said the Governor. “I challenge every Oregonian to join me during Harvest Week and take action to help end hunger in our state.”

Oregon Harvest Week is a partnership between the Governor, the Oregon Food Bank, and local government and community leaders.  Each day during the week, partners will hold events throughout the state to raise awareness about hunger issues, develop action plans to address hunger and related issues in their local communities, and raise money to fight hunger throughout the state.

“Harvest time is a time of giving thanks – for the food we eat, our families and friends, our beautiful surroundings, and the many other blessings of life on earth,” said the Governor. “But too many Oregonians do not share in the bounty of this time of year and Oregon Harvest Week is an opportunity to bring attention to the those who are hungry in our state and to ensure all Oregonians have the food and nutrients they need to live successful and productive lives.”
