Governor Kulongoski Declares 10 - 16, 2004 "Oregon Harvest Week"
Governor calls on all Oregonians to join him in the fight against hunger

(SALEM, OR) – Today Governor Ted Kulongoski issued a proclamation declaring the week of October 10-16, 2004 Oregon Harvest Week – an annual week of events started by the Governor in 2003 to increase awareness about hunger in Oregon

“Harvest time is a time of giving thanks – for the food we eat, our families and friends, our beautiful surroundings, and the many other blessings of life on earth,” said the Governor. “But too many Oregonians do not share in the bounty of this time of year and Oregon Harvest Week is an opportunity for us to bring attention to the issue of hunger in our state and to engage more in our fight to ensure all Oregonians have the food and nutrients they need to live successful and productive lives.”

Oregon Harvest Week is a partnership between the Governor, the Oregon Food Bank, and local government and community leaders.  Each day during the week, partners will hold events throughout the state to raise awareness about hunger issues, develop actions plans to address hunger in their local communities, and raise important funds to fight hunger throughout the state.

“We can only win the fight against hunger if we all work together – government, business, nonprofits, the faith community and every individual,” said the Governor. “I challenge every Oregonian to join me in taking action during Harvest Week to help end hunger in our state.”
