Homeland Security Level in Oregon Remains Yellow; Governor Encourages Citizens to Remain Vigilant

(SALEM) – In consultation with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Oregon Office of Homeland Security and the Oregon State Police, Governor Ted Kulongoski today announced that the threat advisory level in Oregon will remain at an “elevated” risk of terrorist attack, or the yellow level.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced this morning that they have raised the threat advisory level to orange in New York, Northern New Jersey and Washington, D.C. in response to indications of an increased risk of threat to the financial services sector in those three states. The orange level translates to a “high” risk of terrorist attack.

The Governor’s Office was briefed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security this morning. The federal agency advised that the elevated threat level announced today is limited to a specific geographic region on the east coast and no additional protective measures are requested in Oregon.

“There is no information that would indicate a specific or immediate threat to Oregon,” said the governor. “I urge all Oregonians to remain calm, alert and active in the protection of our state.”
