Governor Appoints Jackson County Justice of the Peace
 
Governor Kulongoski has appointed Joe Charter as the Justice of the Peace for the Southern Justice Court of Jackson County.  This appointment is effective immediately. 
 
On March 31, 2004, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners created this new justice court district.  Mr. Charter was elected to this position on November 2, 2004 for a term of office to begin on January 3, 2005.  Upon the request of Jackson County, Governor Kulongoski is appointing Mr. Charter to this position before the commencement of his elected term of office so this justice court can begin operating immediately.
 
Mr. Charter received a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Michigan and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of California, Berkeley.  Mr. Charter has practiced law in Alaska, California and Oregon.  He currently is a partner at Charter Anderson, LLP in Medford.
