Governor announces intention to streamline regulatory process and increase available industrial lands supply

(Salem) Governor Ted Kulongoski announced his intentions to streamline the regulatory process and review the options available for increasing the industrial lands supply in Oregon. Speaking to a group of employees at IMEX America, a Salem-based leader in toner recycling technology, Governor Kulongoski previewed two major initiatives he plans on unveiling in the next two weeks.

"We need to do more to retain, expand and recruit business in Oregon and these first two initiatives will help spur the economic recovery we are all working towards," Governor Kulongoski said.

The regulatory streamlining initiative will be led by Cory Streisinger, Director of the Department of Consumer and Business Services. Her efforts will be focused on creating changes in the regulatory process to promote economic vitality and improve the business climate in the state - without jeopardizing standards for environmental protection, land use, consumer rights and worker health and safety.

Another key to enhancing the state's ability to retain, expand and recruit businesses is by addressing the issue of available industrial lands. Cities, counties economic development organizations and businesses understand that without "shovel ready" lands we will not be able to respond with the speed necessary to have a major impact in economic expansion. The industrial lands issue will be led by the governor's natural resources team in conjunction with economic development and the community solutions team.
