(Salem) – Today Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, September 5, 2009, in memory of Oregon Army National Guard Sergeant Earl D. Werner.

Werner, 38, died August 28, when his security convoy was struck by an explosion. He was assigned to the 41st Special Troops Battalion, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard.

“Sergeant Werner served his country for not only one but three courageous deployments,” said Governor Kulongoski. “He had great pride for his state and country and his sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
