Governor Orders flags at half-staff in memory of Oregon soldier
Flags to be lowered Friday, September 4, 2009, in honor of Oregon Army National Guard Specialist Taylor D. Marks

(Salem) – Today Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Friday, September 4, 2009, in memory of Oregon Army National Guard Specialist Taylor D. Marks of Monmouth.

Marks, 19, died August 28, when his security convoy was struck by an explosion. He was assigned to the 41st Special Troops Battalion, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard.

“Specialist Marks deferred his educational opportunities to serve as a dedicated soldier in the Oregon National Guard, where he served with pride, honor and courage,” said Governor Kulongoski. “His loss will be forever felt by his friends and family, but we will never forget his sacrifice and service to our state and our nation.”
