Governor orders flags at half-staff in memory of Oregon soldier
Flags to be lowered Monday, July 20, 2009 in honor of Marine Corporal Matthew R. Lembke
 
(Salem) -  Today Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff on Monday, July 20, 2009 in memory of Marine Corporal Matthew R. Lembke of Tualatin, OR.
 
Lembke, 22, died July 10th, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan on June 24th during his third tour of duty.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. 
 
“Matthew was a dedicated soldier that served his country with pride, honor and courage,” said Governor Kulongoski. “He will be forever remembered by friends and family and his sacrifice for our nation will never be forgotten.”
