Statement by Governor Ted Kulongoski on passage of low carbon fuel standard
(Salem) – “Today the Senate took a major step forward in advancing Oregon’s comprehensive approach to climate change by passing House Bill 2186 – a bill that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in transportation fuels.
“This is the most significant step taken this session to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in every corner of the state. Establishing a low carbon fuel standard will not only result in cleaner burning gasoline for all of our cars, but will also encourage the development of new, renewable and lower emission transportation fuels.
“This legislation will also lead to savings at the pump for Oregonians as new home grown, low carbon fuels become more available and cost effective at the same time that the price of traditional gasoline continues to rise.
“With this bill, Oregon remains at the forefront of advancing innovative policies that help move our entire nation toward energy independence and a cleaner environment. I will be proud to sign House Bill 2186 into law.”
