Governor's statement on senate passage of revenue legislation
(Salem) – “The State Senate’s action today represents a major step forward in bringing fairness to Oregon’s tax structure that will also ensure we have the means to take a balanced approach to our current economic crisis.
“A lot of work from both chambers of the legislature went into passing these two revenue measures. This vote was not easy, but it was necessary to protect our middle class and prevent devastating cuts to programs like education, health care and public safety.
“I have been working for years with the legislature to increase the corporate minimum income tax and identify a dedicated funding source for a state Rainy Day Fund, and today Oregon is finally on path to accomplish both – which is the most important action we can take to strengthen the fiscal stability of our state.
“The legislature has taken bold action this week on a number of policies and they should be commended for their vision and commitment to a better future for all Oregonians.”
