Governor Kulongoski Congratulates Legislature on Transportation Bill
Governor commends legislature for bipartisan bill that creates thousands of family wage jobs

(Salem) -  “I want to congratulate the legislature for a landmark achievement.

“The passage of the Jobs and Transportation Act of 2009 represents the most important action the legislature can take this session to create thousands of jobs, improve our infrastructure for freight, commerce and goods, and advance our efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the state.

“Many months and hours of work went into this bipartisan achievement.  My vision committee spent a year working with stakeholders, local officials, sustainability experts and legislators to develop a proposal that moves Oregon’s transportation system into the 21st century.  In a very difficult economic climate, legislative leadership took this vision and made it a reality.

“Today marks a significant achievement that demonstrates to the public that working across party lines can deliver meaningful results for the people of Oregon.  Every community in the state will benefit from this investment and I look forward to signing it into law.”
