Governor Wishes Oregon Families a Safe and Happy Holiday
The Governor also wants to remind everyone to remember those men and women serving overseas and the less fortunate

(Salem) – Governor Kulongoski wished all Oregonians a happy Thanksgiving holiday today and encouraged everybody to remember those serving overseas and the less fortunate who may not have a Thanksgiving meal.

“Thanksgiving is a time when we gather near our family and friends to share our love and gratitude for the blessings in our lives,” Governor Kulongoski said. “It is also a time when we remember those who cannot be with their families or are having a difficult time and need our help.”

This year given the state of the economy, there is an increased number of Oregonians across the state who need assistance to provide nutritious food for their family and the Governor urged Oregonians to contribute to this need through the local food banks.

“This Thanksgiving and through the holiday season I urge you to give what you can to your local organizations that help families in need or to the Oregon Food Bank, which has a network of distribution sites in every county in Oregon,” the Governor said. “Especially at this time of year, no mother should have to worry about how she will feed her children. And no grandparent should have to make the heartbreaking choice between buying food or paying for the heat.”

While remembering the less fortunate, the Governor also wants to remind everyone to travel safe on the crowded roadways.

“With increased traffic on Oregon roads during the holiday, I hope everyone will wear their seatbelts and use extra caution as they travel to the homes of their loved ones,” said Governor Kulongoski.
