Governor Kulongoski Appoints Interim Polk County District Attorney
Mark Heslinga will replace John Fisher
 
(Salem) Governor Ted Kulongoski today announced the appointment of Mark Heslinga as the interim Polk County District Attorney.  Mr. Heslinga will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of John Fisher, effective October 1, 2008.  Mr. Heslinga will serve out DA John Fisher’s term remaining term, which expires December 31, 2008.
 
The district attorney seat will be decided in a contested election in November. Mr. Heslinga is not a candidate for the seat.
 
Mr. Heslinga has worked in the Polk County District Attorney’s Office since 1989, and is the present Chief Deputy District Attorney.  He graduated from the University of Iowa School of Law in 1982.
