Governor Kulongoski Calls for Rehearing on Bradwood Landing LNG Facility
(Salem)– Governor Ted Kulongoski today announced the state of Oregon will request a rehearing on the Bradwood Landing liquefied natural gas facility. The Governor’s decision follows the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) decision to license the facility. A rehearing is the final administrative step that must be taken before parties initiate legal action.
“Today’s decision by the federal government lacks accountability to the environment and the people of Oregon.
“Federal law requires a supplemental environmental impact statement be issued and open for public comment when a project changes substantially. But the Commission has decided to ignore the law and instead, approve a project with incomplete mitigation plans and without regard to Oregon’s important concerns.
“Oregon deserves a rehearing on this project. Moving forward with this project as is – which is incomplete – disregards states’ rights in this process. If legal action is necessary to compel FERC to do this right, I am prepared to exercise that option.”
