Statement by Governor Kulongoski on Loss of Oregon Firefighter
Governor orders flags to be flown at half-staff Monday, August 25, 2008 in memory of Robert Hales
 
(Salem) – Governor Ted Kulongoski today ordered all flags at public institutions to be flown at half-staff Monday, August 25, 2008 in memory of Robert Hales, a volunteer firefighter with the Scappoose Rural Fire Protection District who lost his life August 17 after 12 hours of battling several natural cover fires in Columbia County, Oregon .
 
“Oregon relies on selfless volunteer firefighters like Robert Hales to protect our homes and our communities,” said Governor Kulongoski. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
 
Robert Hales was a volunteer firefighter serving his community for 8 years.  He died in the line of duty and his name will be engraved on the Fallen Firefighter Memorial at the Oregon Public Safety Academy in Salem, Oregon.
