Governor Kulongoski Continues Call for Investment in Green Technology

Governor visits a Bend solar technology company to tout his agenda for global warming and sustainable development

Bend – Governor Ted Kulongoski today kicked off his State of the State tour with a visit to PV Powered, a solar energy technology company in Bend, Oregon . The Governor underscored the need for Oregon to continue to be aggressive in is policies to mitigate the impact of global warming and help grow renewable energy companies throughout the state.

“Oregon is ready to outdistance every other state in the development of renewable energy, however the state cannot do this alone,” said Governor Kulongoski. “More than 10 communities, like Bend, have made commitments to reduce greenhouse gases, and I will work with all of them and communities across the state to find local solutions to global warming.”

The Governor visited PV Powered, a solar inverter company based in Bend, which is expanding its operation due in part to the Business Energy Tax Credit made available to companies that operate in Oregon. PV Powered joins a growing list of more than 60 solar companies that have chosen Oregon as their place to do business, making Oregon among the largest producers of photovoltaic solar cells in the nation.

“Global warming and sustainable development are an opportunity to attract new companies and expand existing ones that are a great fit for our economy, such as PV Powered,” Governor Kulongoski continued. “As we move forward, I am committed to building on our renewable energy success, including wind, wave, geothermal and especially solar, so Oregon is a national leader in this emerging sector and in mitigating the impacts of global warming on our environment”

Governor Kulongoski has made climate change and combating global warming a priority of his administration, leading the passage of a renewable electricity standard and renewable fuels standard, which rank among the most ambitious in the nation.

In his recent State of the State address, the Governor outlined a comprehensive agenda that will aggressively keep Oregon on track to achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas levels to 10 percent below 1990 levels by 2020 by investing in energy efficiency, sustainable transportation, clean technologies, water and a cap and trade system for carbon emissions.
