Governor Kulongoski Appoints Nancy Hamilton as Deputy Chief of Staff
Salem –Governor Ted Kulongoski today announced that Nancy Hamilton will transition to the position of Deputy Chief of Staff, effective April 1, 2008. Previously, Ms. Hamilton was the director of strategic development for the Governor, and has acted as special advisor to the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department.
“At the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department, Ms. Hamilton built upon her solid record of tackling complex issues, building consensus and delivering results,” Governor Kulongoski said. “I welcome her knowledge and experience in this new capacity. She will be a valuable member of my team and critical to advancing my sustainability agenda.”
As Deputy Chief of Staff, Ms. Hamilton will oversee economic development, energy and the Governor’s climate change initiatives.
Ms. Hamilton’s work at OECDD will prove critical to the new position. In October 2007, Governor Kulongoski hired Ms. Hamilton to take an internal look at OECDD to ensure the agency continues to meet the needs of Oregon businesses and communities in the 21st century.
Prior to Ms. Hamilton’s service to the state of Oregon, she served as chief of staff to Portland Mayor Tom Potter, after having successfully run his election campaign.
As campaign manager for the Portland Children’s Initiative, she helped to create the Children’s Investment Fund, which, in brief, prepares our neediest children for school and provides safe after-school opportunities. Ms. Hamilton also was a founding member of HOPE (Help Out Public Education) that successfully secured a temporary income tax increase in Multnomah County to stop area schools from facing major lay-offs and school closures.
