Statement by Governor Ted Kulongoski on Dan Gardner
Governor praises his service on behalf of Oregon working families

Salem   “I want to thank Dan Gardner for his leadership as State Labor Commissioner, his prior service in the legislature and his years as an outstanding representative of organized labor.

“Dan has been a champion for working families, fighting for living wage jobs, fair pay, and workers’ rights on the job.

“He was a chief petitioner for Measure 25, which raised Oregon’s minimum wage in 2002 and has provided annual increases every year since then to ensure that no one who works full-time in Oregon should have to live in poverty.

“Dan has been an ardent advocate for the rights of farm workers. He has defended the principle that our public works projects should honor our commitment to pay prevailing wages. And, he has been a proponent of apprenticeship programs to ensure that employers and unions in the construction trades continue to invest in the workers of the future.

“Dan is going back to his roots in the union movement. We are losing a great labor commissioner in Oregon, but the working people of this country are gaining a great voice in Washington, D.C.”
