Governor Orders Flags at Half-Staff in Memory of Oregon Soldier
Flags to be lowered Saturday, August 4, 2007, in honor of Specialist Daniel Leckel
 
Salem – Today Governor Ted Kulongoski ordered all flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff throughout Oregon on Saturday, August 4, 2007, in honor of Army Specialist Daniel A. Leckel.
 
Leckel, 19, of Medford, died July 25 in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.
 
“Specialist Leckel’s determination and bravery are reminders of what makes us so proud to be an Oregonian,” Governor Kulongoski said. “My thoughts and prayers are with Specialist Leckel’s family and community as we all mourn the loss of this courageous and outstanding young soldier.”
