Governor Kulongoski Appoints Allen Alley as New Deputy Chief of Staff

Portland—Today at the Oregon Business Plan Summit, Governor Ted Kulongoski announced the appointment of Allen Alley to serve in the newly reconfigured position of Deputy Chief of Staff, alongside Tim Nesbitt, and that Alley will oversee the economic development, technology, transportation, workforce training, and energy policy areas.

Alley has over 30 years of experience in multiple disciplines from engineering to marketing, venture capital and entrepreneurship.  In January 1997 he co-founded Pixelworks, one of Oregon’s leading technology companies.  Alley stepped down as president and CEO of Pixelworks last month. He continues as chairman of the board of directors.

“I want to take this opportunity to announce the newest member of my leadership team – an individual who will help strengthen the bridge between the public and private sectors,” the Governor told the several hundred business leaders from across the state.  “He is someone you all know and who has a proven record of leadership, innovation and a commitment to Oregon’s future.”

Last month the Governor announced the reconfiguration of his office, appointing Chip Terhune as his Chief of Staff and Tim Nesbitt to oversee education, human services and health care, public safety and natural resources policies as one of two Deputy Chiefs of Staff.  At that time, the Governor also announced the creation of the second Deputy Chief of Staff position to oversee economic development, technology, workforce training, transportation and infrastructure and energy policies.

“I have great confidence that Allen’s depth of experience in a range of fields will help Oregonmove an ambitious agenda forward to develop sustainable economic opportunity for all of our citizens,” the Governor continued.  “From domestic to international policy, Allen's expertise will not only help advance economic opportunity for Oregon today, but will help create the foundation for long-term economic success for Oregon's future."

Pixelworks is a global fabless semiconductor company that specializes in ICs for the advanced display industry, including advanced televisions, multimedia projectors and flat panel monitors. Prior to Pixelworks, Alley was a General Partner at Battery Ventures, where he served as the lead investor and on the Board of Directors for In Focus.  Alley began his career with Ford Motor Company and Boeing in various engineering design positions and also spent four years with Computervision, Corp. as the Director of Product Marketing.
